The honey bee genome-- what has it been good for?

چکیده
Abstract In 2006, the full complement of DNA sequence information (or ‘genome’) Western honey bee, Apis mellifera , was published. This important resource one most advances in history bee research, with seemingly limitless applications to unlocking secrets biology and social life for improving health, breeding management. Honey genomics has seen immense growth past a half decades. this article, we reflect on what genome added our understanding fundamental aspects biology, including evolutionary origins, behaviour health/disease. We conclude that while fuelled many areas it is only part an emerging systems-based, multi-omics approach. Moving forward, posit research will benefit from even fuller integration classical approaches evolution, ethology, physiology microbiology.

A set of candidate genes for behaviors representing diverse signaling pathways underlying these impressive abilities has recently been identified[17]. Finding these highly conserved molecules suggests that insights fro...
متن کاملReplacement fertility, what has it been and what does it mean?
Replacement fertility is a term commonly used by demographers when referring to levels of childbearing and yet is rarely explained. It is normally presented as being around 2.1 children per woman. Continued below replacement fertility in developed countries and fertility falling in developing countries has given the concept of replacement fertility a higher profile. This article explains how re...
متن کاملMultiple virus infections in the honey bee and genome divergence of honey bee viruses.
Using uniplex RT-PCR we screened honey bee colonies for the presence of several bee viruses, including black queen cell virus (BQCV), deformed wing virus (DWV), Kashmir bee virus (KBV), and sacbrood virus (SBV), and described the detection of mixed virus infections in bees from these colonies. We report for the first time that individual bees can harbor four viruses simultaneously. We also deve...

متن کاملMemory Training Interventions: What has been forgotten?
Memory training for older adults often produces gains that are limited to the particular memory tasks encountered during training. We suggest that memory training programs may be misguided by an implicit "generalist" assumption-memory training on a couple of memory tasks will have a positive benefit on memory ability in general. One approach to increase memory-training benefits is to target tra...
